Verstappen frustrated after Sainz battle

Max Verstappen left the Australian Grand Prix frustrated as he was forced to settle for 10th place behind Toro Rosso team-mate Carlos Sainz.

The Dutchman was angry he was not released by Sainz after his second pit stop when he felt he had more pace to challenge for a higher finish.

Verstappen expressed his frustration over team radio and Sainz was warned he needed to push to avoid team orders being brought into play.

He did so but not enough to placate Verstappen as he only claimed a solitary point from the opening race of 2016.

"The start went well, so I can't complain about that," the 18-year-old told Ziggo Sport. "But everything went wrong from there on.

"The tyres weren't ready for my second stop and things were very complicated from there on.

"I was faster than Carlos for the duration of the race. The team told him about that, but nothing happened.

"My first point of the season? I could not care less right now."
