Warrington Wolves forward Ben Westwood is set to miss a month of action as he requires ankle surgery.
The experienced England international was due to sit out Friday's Super League contest against Wakefield Trinity Wildcats through suspension.
However, head coach Tony Smith confirmed the 34-year-old would not have been fit for selection anyway.
"He's got a little floating bone in his ankle so will have an operation on Wednesday on that," Smith told Warrington's official website.
"He'll be out for the best part of a month."
Warrington have won their opening two matches this season and sit third in the Super League.
