Memphis Grizzlies centre Marc Gasol is to miss the rest of the NBA season after undergoing surgery on his broken right foot.
Gasol sustained the injury on February 8 against the Portland Trail Blazers and subsequently went under the knife on Saturday.
Before his setback, Gasol was averaging 16.6 points and 7.0 rebounds per game.
"It is frustrating to not be on the court with my teammates at this time," Gasol said in a Grizzlies release.
"But I understand that the focus of this process is on long-term health and stability.
"I look forward to the road ahead and a full and successful recovery."
The Grizzlies are fifth in the Western Conference with a 32-23 record, and the likes of Brandan Wright, JaMychal Green, and newly acquired Chris Andersen will fight it out for the centre position for the remainder of the season.
