Blue Jackets top Bruins, Sharks halt Blues run
The Columbus Blue Jackets came out on top against the Boston Bruins in a 10-goal NHL thriller on Monday.
Boone Jenner had two goals for the Blue Jackets, scoring in the first and second periods to put the visitors 1-0 and 2-1 up respectively, either side of Loui Eriksson netting the Bruins.
Matt Beleskey managed to tie the game at 2-2 but further goals from William Karlsson and Scott Hartnell saw the Blue Jackets go into the final period 4-2 up.
Beleskey hit back again but as the Bruins pushed to tie the game, Brandon Saad restored the Blue Jackets' two-goal lead, before Eriksson got his second to pull it back again and ensure a thrilling finish.
However, the Blue Jackets held their nerve, and Dalton Prout ensured the result with a goal just over two minutes from the end.
The St. Louis Blues' season-best run came to an end after they suffered a 6-3 defeat at the hands of the San Jose Sharks.
Tomas Hertl, Logan Couture and Joe Thornton all scored twice for the victors as they ended the Blues' five-game winning streak.
The Washington Capitals continued their superb form by edging the Arizona Coyotes 3-2.
Kevin Connauton put the Coyotes up early in the second period, but Evgeny Kuznetsov tied the game shortly afterwards before quick-fire goals from Alex Ovechkin and Mike Richards proved the difference to seal a fourth successive win for the Capitals.
Meanwhile, the Nashville Predators defeated the Montreal Canadiens 2-1 thanks to a shoot-out victory.
Craig Smith was the hero for the Predators in the shoot-out, after first-period goals from Viktor Arvidsson and Brendan Gallagher saw the game finish 1-1.
