Robin McBryde revealed that Leigh Halfpenny has been using his inside knowledge of the France mindset to assist Wales as the half-back makes "great strides" with his recovery from a knee injury.
Halfpenny has been sidelined since September after suffering cruciate ligament damage during a World Cup warm-up match against Italy.
Wales will attempt to end France's perfect start to the Six Nations when the two sides meet at the Principality Stadium next Friday.
And Toulon star Halfpenny has been offering words of wisdom in the Wales camp ahead of the clash in Cardiff.
Wales forwards coach McBryde said: "He's good to have in the environment. He's very honest, very humble.
"It's good to have Leigh back, he's a quality player. The knowledge he can share amongst the squad with regards to the French mindset, that's invaluable.
"In fairness to Leigh, he's with us sharing that knowledge. It's great to see him taking great strides in his rehab."
McBryde said lock Luke Charteris will be assessed when he links up with the squad again on Sunday after suffering a knee injury.
