France have called Teddy Thomas into their squad for the Six Nations opener against Italy after Wesley Fofana was ruled out through injury.
Fofana took a blow to the ribs during Clermont Auvergne's Top 14 defeat at home to Montpellier over the weekend and was duly substituted.
Although the 28-year-old usually operates at centre, he had been anticipated to feature on the wing against Italy in Guy Noves' first game in charge.
And Racing 92 wing Thomas has been named as Fofana's replacement, giving the youngster an opportunity to add to his four international caps.
France have back-to-back home games to start the Six Nations, with Italy first up at the Stade de France on Saturday before reigning champions Ireland visit the following weekend.
