Bristol director of rugby Andy Robinson says the Rugby Football Union (RFU) has not approached the club over adding Steve Borthwick to Eddie Jones' coaching staff.
Borthwick was one of Jones' assistants in Japan's impressive Rugby World Cup campaign before starting his role as forwards coach with Championship side Bristol earlier this month.
The former England captain has been linked with a position in the England set-up following Jones' appointment as Stuart Lancaster's successor last week.
But according to Robinson, the RFU have not been in contact with Bristol.
"It's very simple for us: Steve Borthwick is employed by Bristol Rugby and there has been no contact from the RFU," the former England coach is quoted as telling the Bristol Post.
"If there is, then we will be able to have comment with you. But until that's the case, Steve Borthwick is contracted to Bristol Rugby and is here for two years - and his focus is on Bristol Rugby getting promotion."
Borthwick made 57 appearances for his country before the lock's international career ended in 2010.
