Garcia books quarter-final berth in Limoges

Caroline Garcia is the highest seed remaining at the Open de Limoges after victory over Richel Hogenkamp sent her into the quarter-finals.

Following top seed Elina Svitolina's elimination in the first round, world number 35 Garcia, seeded third, takes on the mantle of tournament favourite.

Garcia overcame her Dutch opponent - ranked almost 100 places below her at 133rd - with a comfortable 6-2 6-2 triumph, making it three straight wins against Hogenkamp.

Anna-Lena Friedsam booked her passage into the last eight with a 7-6 (7-1) 6-4 victory over Tamira Paszek.

After edging the first set in a tie-break, Friedsam hit four aces and saved both break points Paszek carved open in the second set to seal a simple progression.

Francesca Schiavone cruised past Mandy Minella behind a strong service game, winning 6-2 6-2 in 64 minutes to set up a last-eight meeting with sixth seed Margarita Gasparyan.

Home hope Mathilde Johansson took the first set in her meeting with Louisa Chirico 6-3, but the American battled back and emerged victorious 3-6 6-2 6-1 after a remarkable recovery.

Another Frenchwoman, Pauline Parmentier, suffered elimination at the hands of Katerina Siniakova, who took just over two hours to ensure a 7-6 (10-8) 7-5 triumph.
