Is a Shiba Inu the Right Dog For Your Family?

The Shiba Inu is an agile and spirited breed that is believed to have originated in Japan several thousand years ago. In their earliest years, these beautiful canines were originally utilized as hunting companions in Japan's mountainous regions, as they excelled at tracking small game. In the modern era, however, their role has evolved significantly, as they are now favored for their independent nature, natural intelligence, and steadfast loyalty.

Shiba Inus make absolutely wonderful dogs for the right sort of owners, but it's important to acknowledge that they may not be the best fit for everyone.

These dogs have a high prey drive, so they may not do well in homes with other dogs or cats. They are also escape artists, so it's important that any fencing you have in your yard is secure.

These beautiful dogs can also be strong-willed and independent, which also means they can be difficult to train. Shiba Inus can be prone to destructive behaviors, such as chewing, digging, and escaping. They need a lot of physical and mental exercise to keep them engaged and alleviate boredom.

That being said, these dogs are loyal, affectionate and amazingly smart. They can also be super energetic and playful, so they can do well with a family willing to train them and provide them with a lot of stimulation.
