HILLSDALE COUNTY — A second canine deputy at the Hillsdale County Sheriff's Office will soon receive body armor.

K-9 Mason, a working dog tasked with searches at the jail with his partner, Deputy Sheila Lonk, joins his road counterpart, K-9 Drako, in receiving a donation from Vested Interest in K9s Inc. with the bullet and stab vest sponsored by Don and Misty Fike of Galesburg, Illinois, Hillsdale County Sheriff Scott Hodshire announced.

The vest will be embroidered with the sentiment "Born to Love-Trained to Serve-Loyal Always" and delivery is anticipated within 10 weeks.

Hodshire said he is grateful to Vested Interest in K9s Inc. for their continued support of the sheriff's working dogs.

The nonprofit was established in 2009 with a mission to provide bullet and stab protective vests and other assistance to dogs of law enforcement and related agencies throughout the United States. Since its inception, Vested Interest has provided more than 5,210 vests to K9s in all 50 states at a value of $6.9 million through private and corporate donations.
