Schoolgirl stabbed in chest, arm at NSW high school

A teenage girl has been stabbed in the chest and arm at a high school in the Central West region of NSW.

The girl, 16, was injured about 1pm on Monday at Canobolas Rural Technology High School in Orange, police said.

Officers from the Central West Police District arrived at the school and found the victim with stab wounds to her chest and arm.

Staff immediately provided first aid before paramedics arrived. They treated her at the scene before she was taken to hospital in a stable condition.

Teen arrested over alleged assult

A 15-year-old girl was arrested at the scene and is being questioned by police.

A NSW Department of Education spokeswoman said emergency services were called to the school following an altercation between two students, it's been reported.

The school was reportedly placed into lockdown for a short period of time as a precaution.

Police have established a crime scene and an investigation is underway, they confirmed in a statement.

One concerned parent told the Daily Telegraph parents had not been contacted by the school following the incident.

"I’m quite upset, they didn’t even say anything, I had to find out from my son and (Facebook)," the woman said.

Wellbeing support is apparently available to all staff and students at the school.
