Richard Madeley: 'Vast majority' of Brits think Harry and Meghan are moaners

Richard Madeley says Brits see Harry and Meghan as 'moaners' rather than victims.

Madeley, who was co-hosting this morning's Good Morning Britain with Susanna Reid, was discussing the Queen's decision to name Camilla as Queen consort should Prince Charles become King.

Discussing the announcement with a royal expert Madeley interjected and said: "Come on, there's very little public sympathy, in this country at least, for Harry and Meghan."

He then went on to say: "I mean, they are not seen in this country as victims at all, they are seen as moaners basically, by the vast majority of people. It is different in America."

Reid then interrupted Madeley and told him "let's not get into that particular argument".

Many GMB viewers took to social media to criticise Madeley, who was making his first appearance on the show in a week, as he had been on holiday.

One user wrote on Twitter: "Richard Madeley is terrible. Made a comment about Harry and Meghan this morning and I turned over."

Another posted that Madeley was 'trying to emulate the equally vile Piers Morgan' in his criticism of the couple.

Madeley did receive some support from viewers with one writing: "Richard was right though!".

Reid's previous co-host, Piers Morgan, famously walked off the show after repeatedly criticising Markle following her interview with Oprah Winfrey during which the former actor criticised the Royal Family, talked about feeling suicidal and noted that comments were made about her son's skin colour.

He has since used his column in The Sun to continue criticising the pair, last week commenting on Harry's new role as Chief Impact Officer at BetterUp, a mental health organisation.

Morgan wrote: "Like almost everything he and his wife Meghan have done since flouncing out of Britain and royal duty, it stinks of hypocrisy and ruthless commercialism."
