Puppy and Kitten Runts Named 'Possum & Kangaroo' Instantly Become Inseparable

Sometimes family isn't the group of people you were born into, sometimes it's the people you meet along the way. Like an unlikely pair of besties in Milwaukee, Wisconsin who were both abandoned by their families but found each other.

If it seems strange that a puppy and a kitten would become inseparable, just take a look at the way that Kangaroo and Possum love and care for each other.

The two are currently being fostered by a woman named Emile who happened to capture their unique relationship in a video online. The clip shows the two cuddling, despite being from entirely different species.

"Possum the puppy and Kangaroo the kitten were both the runts of their litters and rejected by their moms," the video's onscreen caption.

The two became close because neither "wanted to be alone."

"They would cry and cry, so I tried putting them together," she added.

The plan worked. The two "immediately" became inseparable "and now only cry when they know it's time for a bottle!"

Commenters online were so smitten by the pair's friendship. "The way they look like each other with the white face and gray body," wrote one person. "Watching them waddle over each other gives me life, these two are gonna go far," someone else added. "This is so incredibly precious I hope they get adopted together," a third person wrote. "That’s a pre-bonded pair, forever a package," one person chimed in.

Raising a Puppy and Kitten Together

We tend to think that cats and dogs can never get along — but Kangaroo and Possum prove that that's not really true. It's very possible to raise a kitten and a puppy together, and there are certain signs that your animals will show when they are a good match.

For example, animals that clean each other tend to be compatible. Even if they are from different species. The two will also spend a lot of time together — another tell that they are getting along. Having a puppy BFF can also broaden your kitten's horizons. Not necessarily known for being outdoor animals, a kitten may spend more time outside to be close to her puppy bestie.

If you're nervous about making the initial introduction just take it slow. You might need to keep the animals apart from each other for the first few days just so they can get used to each other's scent. But eventually you'll work up to having them spend time together. And before long they'll be the best of friends.
