Precious Playful Pit Bull Mix Is Starting to Lose Hope in Central California Shelter

While animal shelters provide pets in need with miraculous second chances, these places can also be incredibly stressful or depressing for the animals waiting patiently in their kennels. Even short stays can feel like a lifetime when shelter staff can only offer a few minutes of playtime per day, and it's downright impossible to give every dog, cat, and small animal the attention they truly deserve. That's why shelters and rescues are asking for help in any way they can--including social media.

Central California dog advocate Jackie posts regularly from Valley Animal Center in Fresno, but on April 4, she introduced her followers to Stella, a particularly special dog. She's a pretty Pittie girl who came from another shelter and makes friends anywhere she goes. Her shelter friends are continually impressed by her energy level, and it's hard to believe that she hasn't received a single adoption application.

Oh, Stella! My heart is breaking to see her sitting in her kennel so sadly, especially when her shelter friends say she loves nothing more than playtime. She deserves to have a family of her very own to play and spend time with, but it sounds like the animal shelter has had a hard time finding a good match for this energetic gal.

It can be difficult to match a rescue dog with a home without any other pets, but that's what Stella will need in order to thrive. She'll also need lots of space to run and play, as well as an owner or family who will give her as many walks and rounds of fetch as she wants.

The good news is that a few commenters have expressed interest in giving this Pit Bull a home! It's yet to be seen if anyone has actually followed through with their claims, but Jackie feels confident that the good news will come soon enough.

Shelter Shutdown

As sad as it is to see, many happy dogs like Stella end up feeling rejected and shut down after long enough in the shelter. This can happen to the strongest-willed of dogs, and it looks like not even Stella is immune.

Fortunately, there's a lot that animal shelter volunteers can do to make a dog's time in rescue a bit easier. Some dogs enjoy group playtime with other adoptable pups, while others may benefit from spending more time with people. This is just one reason why dog foster parents are vital to rescue pups' success!

Everyone's fingers are crossed that good girl Stella will find a foster or forever home in the next few days. She needs it!
