Dogs are a part of the family. They go wherever you go. So it's almost impossible to believe that the sweetest Staffordshire Bull Terrier was abandoned by her family for a reason that feels sort of....flimsy.

Thankfully, Shelly now has a new family that loves her to pieces. But the backstory of how she came to be has people online downright upset.

Life looks so different for Shelly now. The Staffordshire Bull Terrier is clearly so loved in the footage. It's hard to believe it was any other way. In the clip, the adorable dog was lying peacefully on her new owner's bed, as they shared her story in the onscreen caption.

"She was surrendered by her 'family' because they were having a baby," it reads. "They didn't care if she would be most likely euthanized. Sure enough she ended up on the last call list three weeks later."

That is so heartbreaking. But now she has a brand new "forever family" and "will never be back in a shelter again," they vowed.

Commenters were so happy that Shelly found her spot in the sun. "I wish the people that dumped her no joy. These sweet babies are a commitment, not a way to pass time. Bless you for saving her," one person praised. "That’s exactly how I got my 8-year-old baby Chiweenie last year. Can’t imagine life without her and would NEVER give her back," someone else added. "God bless you for saving this sweet baby girl. She didn't deserve getting dumped, but she ended up where she’ll experience the most love," another commenter agreed.

Common Reasons Why People Rehome Their Dogs

Look, life will certainly test you. And sometimes you really won't have the bandwidth to care for a pet. But there are ways to deal with different stressors that don't mean surrendering the dog to a shelter or rescue.

Many people might be ready to say goodbye to their pets when they move to a new apartment that doesn't allow animals. But this isn't a good reason at all. With a little more effort you can find a place that will allow animals — or speak with the landlord and see if they'll allow you to pay a "pet deposit" with your lease so you can bring your pet with you.

Babies are another common reason why people might think they need to get rid of their pup. But raising a baby with a dog is one of the best things you can do. If you're nervous about bringing your baby home to your dog, make sure they are trained and have exposure to babies and young children before your infant is born.

If pet ownership is starting to seem like a struggle, rehoming might seem like the easiest solution. But dogs depend on us to love them through the good times and the bad. It's our responsibility to try and give them a good home no matter what.
