Piers Morgan says Sharon Osbourne's axe from 'The Talk' was 'disgusting'

Piers Morgan has hit out at US TV execs for the "disgusting" decision to axe Sharon Osbourne from The Talk after she expressed support for him.

Osbourne's decade-long stint as a panellist on the daytime show came to an end when she backed her friend Morgan during the row over his comments around Meghan Markle's interview with Oprah Winfrey.

The former X Factor judge will now join Morgan in fronting a show of her own for News UK's new channel Talk TV.

Morgan told The Sun's TV magazine: "I’m particularly delighted about that [Sharon's new show on Talk TV] because Sharon got cancelled from her show The Talk in America after 10 years, a show that she loved and was the star of, because she tweeted her support for my right to have an opinion.

"She didn’t even agree with the opinion. She just said I was entitled to it, which by the way I was."

Morgan added that Osbourne was "basically made unemployable" in the wake of the row, saying: "What happened to me was bad, what happened to Sharon was disgusting."

In his then-role as one of the anchors of Good Morning Britain, Morgan made it clear that he did not believe many of the claims Markle made in the explosive sit-down with Winfrey.

This included Markle's disclosure that she experienced thoughts of suicide during the worst moments of her time as part of the royal family.

Morgan and GMB ultimately escaped censure from broadcast regulator Ofcom for the comments after more than 57,000 viewers filed complaints.

The controversial presenter will now front Piers Morgan Uncensored, which forms the flagship programme of Talk TV's launch offering.

He has vowed to "cancel cancel culture" with his new show, which has marketed itself on the basis of Morgan's status as an ultra-divisive figure.
