Piers Morgan has said that "nothing happened" when he reported death threats against him.

The broadcaster, 58, went to the police in February 2021 to report that someone had threatened his life in a message on Instagram.

Updating fans about the situation on his TalkTV show this week, he said the fact that no action could be taken "staggers" him.

Morgan opened up as he discussed TV star Holly Willoughby and the fact that she has quit This Morning after 14 years, after a man was charged in relation to an alleged plot to kidnap and murder her.

He was talking about Willoughby when one of his guests on the programme said that death threats did happen in their field.

"Yes had them myself and I'll tell you what, nothing happened when I reported them, and that still staggers me," Morgan replied.

He went on: "To get specific death threats made on my son’s Instagram, and reported it to the police, and they weren’t able to actually file charges.

"It’s quite breath-taking to me."

Former Good Morning Britain presenter Morgan told his fans in 2021 that he had been sent a death threat online, and that his son Spencer, who is now 30, had also been threatened.

He shared the message that he had received on social media, telling his followers: "Another day, another death threat..."

"Let’s see how big and tough he feels when I give him the exposure he deserves," he added.

The TV star also told his followers that he had reported the incident to the police.

Last December, the BBC reported that police said the person wouldn't face action after prosecutors decided the case didn't meet "the evidential test for prosecution".
