Piers Morgan calls Chrissy Teigen a 'shameless woke celebrity' who 'built a career around being married to a pop star'

Piers Morgan has called Chrissy Teigen's apology for her past trolling an "attempt to con the world into thinking she's a nice person".

The ex-Good Morning Britain presenter has attacked the Lip Sync Battle host – who is married to singer John Legend – calling her a "shameless woke celebrity".

Mother-of-two Teigen, 35, this week issued a lengthy public apology for her "awful, awful" old tweets about Courtney Stodden.

Morgan wrote in his column in the MailOnline: "There's never been anything compassionate, empathetic or humane about Chrissy Teigen. Like so many of the famous woke brigade, her whole 'Be Kind!' shtick was a facade.

"In fact, she's always been a despicable piece of work who built a career around being married to a pop star and being a professional social media troll."

The 56-year-old former tabloid editor claimed Teigen had once tweeted him to say: "Why do you ALWAYS take the road of being a piece of s**t a*****e?"

He also cited the model's past tweets making jibes at Lady Gaga, Demi Lovato, Mariah Carey and Donald Trump.

Morgan called her apology a sham, saying: "Like everything else in Chrissy Teigen's warped world, her mea culpa yesterday was a lie, a sham and deliberate attempt to con the world into thinking she's a nice person really.... In fact, Teigen's the worst kind of shameless, duplicitous woke celebrity."

And the TV presenter said he did not believe Teigen deserved the second chance she asked for.

Morgan said: "So, sorry Chrissy – but spare me your pathetic crocodile tears.

"You revelled in fuelling cancel culture, and now you're getting cancelled yourself because it turned out you're worse than any of the people you trolled, and yes, I include Donald Trump in that."

Meanwhile, Leona Lewis has jumped to Teigen's defence after fashion designer Michael Costello claimed the TV star once targeted him and made him suicidal.

The Bleeding Love singer said it was “the pot calling the kettle black” as she alleged Costello once humiliated her by refusing to dress her for a charity fashion show.

Lewis, 36, wrote on her Instagram stories: “Because I didn’t look like a model size, I was not permitted to walk in his dress.

“I had to sit in the audience and was asked by press why I didn’t walk in the show. I remember having to come up with excuses as I was so humiliated by it all.”

Lewis also called for Teigen to be forgiven for her alleged bullying.

She said: “We all make mistakes, I know I have, but at this time I feel that when people apologise and show sincere remorse and rehabilitation for their actions, we should embrace them and not try and kick them when they’re down.”

Teigen has been absent from social media for a month after American reality TV star Stodden, 26, told The Daily Beast how she was mocked by celebrities as a teenager when she married actor Doug Hutchinson, 34 years her senior.

She claimed Teigen – then 16 – "would privately DM me and tell me to kill myself." Teigen apologised, but professional repercussions have been swift.

Teigen has built a reputation for being brutally honest in her social media posts, with many fans praising her catty comments.

Last year she shared her personal pain and trauma after suffering a miscarriage, and was hailed for opening a conversation for other women who has suffered similar losses in silence.
