Peter Andre has spoken out on a controversial parenting moment from his past and explained how he had changed as a parent.

The Mysterious Girl singer appeared in a series of fly-on-the-wall documentaries with ex-wife Katie Price when their children were small and has been criticised over a resurfaced clip in which he enforced gender stereotypes with son Junior.

But chatting with wife Emily Andre on Thursday's Loose Women, he said that she and her parents had changed him as a father and that he had backtracked on his previous opinions.

What, how, and why?

Peter Andre and his wife Emily keep their two shared children's lives mostly out of the public eye, but during his first marriage to Katie Price the singer's early days of parenting his children with her were documented on TV shows about their family.

One scene has resurfaced many times over the years and been criticised by viewers as Peter told his and Price's son Junior, then just a toddler, that he could not have a pink cowboy hat he had found in a shop because he was a boy.

Peter is now expecting his third child with wife Emily - his fifth overall as he and Price also share daughter Princess - and as the couple appeared on Loose Women, the presenters asked them whether their parenting style had changed over the years.

He replied: "Mine has definitely changed, the way I was with Junior and Princess when they were young was what my parents instilled in me. When they grew older I thought I like a lot of what they taught us, but I don't actually agree with some of it.

"One example is, Junior, when he was three, I used to say to him, boys wear blue and girls wear pink. Boys kiss girls and girls kiss boys," as Nadia Sawalha told him she remembered the moment in the documentary.

He added: "When he was 12, I sat him down and said son, we're going to have a chat. I don't agree with that, whoever you love I don't care."

Peter told Emily: "You've helped me change as a parent, your parents, who I love and respect so much have helped me change as a parent, so it is all of that together, I think."

The Loose Women also welcomed Rob Rinder to the show, who spoke about a TV programme he has filmed with Rylan Clark where they tour Italy to mark the 200th anniversary of Lord Byron's death.

Rinder said: "It's no secret that I love Rylan...I'm obsessed with culture, art, classical music...what's amazing about him, we're far too impressed with people's qualifications. What matters is cultural curiosity, and I think we live in a country where people say 'stay in your lane'. I can't stand that. Wait til you see what he does when he stands in front of this incredible piece of art."

The former barrister was also promoting his debut novel and revealed he had written a follow up already, saying: "It's about a murder of a famous person on daytime television."

Loose Women airs on ITV at 12.30pm on weekdays.
