The Chase star Paul Sinha was “emotional” to front brand new ITV celebrity quiz Paul Sinha's TV Showdown.

The show, which starts this Saturday 9 January, will see Fay Ripley and Rob Beckett captain teams comprised of TV stars as they face off against each other on telly trivia.

On how it felt to host the quiz Sinha, 50, said: “It was quite extraordinary. Seeing your own name in lights is the most discombobulating part of the whole experience. That they’ve handed you this level of responsibility.

"I’ve only been part of stuff before, rather than driving it from the middle. I was surprisingly not nervous, but emotional.”

The Sinnerman is one of six brainiacs on The Chase which is hosted by Bradley Walsh but he didn't consult the veteran presenter for advice.

“Bradley’s so good, so is that really the best starting point for trying to learn? Or should you keep your ambitions a little bit lower? But you watch him again and again and again and you know why he’s good," he said.

Comprised of four rounds, the first sees contestants answer questions based on a clip. For round two they are tasked with identifying a TV star based on a set of clues given by a celebrity guest while round three sees team members pick a category and they must each answer a question based on it.

The fourth and final round has each panellist face their own set of questions in a quick-fire Q&A segment, before scores are totalled and the winning team is announced.

Other famous faces set to feature on the programme include Emilia Fox, Adil Ray, Melvin Odoom, Laura Whitmore, Janet Street-Porter, Roman Kemp, and Shirley Ballas.

Sinha follows his Chaser colleague Anne Hegerty in hosting his own show as she’s fronted Britain’s Brightest Family since 2018.

Paul Sinha's TV Showdown starts Saturday 9 January at 10pm on ITV.
