Young woman crushed to death by wardrobe in hotel room

A young woman has died after a wardrobe in her hotel room fell on top of her and crushed her windpipe.

Chloe Haynes, 21, was found dead on September 10 in the Adelphi Hotel in Liverpool after she was dropped home by a friend.

Her mum, Nicola Williams, told the Liverpool Echo her daughter staying at the Adelphi Hotel after she travelled from the Hafan y Mor Haven Holiday Park in North Wales where she worked.

"There was some sort of engagement party or something. By midnight, she had been drinking shots and so on and she was a bit drunk, so her friend has taken her back to the hotel to sleep it off, and then he's gone back out," she said.

"It seems she has got up out of the bed confused, not knowing where she is, and she's opened the door of the wardrobe maybe thinking it is the toilet or the door to go back out of the room. It was a big, old, heavy wardrobe and it's fallen on her and crushed her windpipe."

It is believed Chloe was later found dead by a colleague she was sharing the room with. Two men from other rooms responded to the friend's call for help but Chloe couldn't be saved.

The men were initially questioned by police, according to the Echo, but they were released and her death was deemed "accidental".

Chloe's mum said the young woman was shy and quiet but had recently started coming out of her shell.

"She was gaining confidence and she had a wide circle of friends," she said.

"She was beautiful but she had struggled with confidence about herself so didn't really know how beautiful she was and that made her beautiful on the inside as well. She was very kind."

A friend posted a touching tribute on Facebook along with a series of photos and videos of Chloe.

"RIP Chlo, I just can’t stop thinking of you! Taken too soon! The world is cruel! Rest easy beautiful girl," the friend wrote.

"Rest peacefully girl never been so shocked and saddened," another said.

Liverpool Council told the Echo the Environmental Health department was working with police to investigate the incident at Adelphi Hotel.

Britannia Hotels, which operates the Adelphi, has not responded to media requests for comment
