Puerto Rico suffers most from extreme weather.

Research group Germanwatch found that between 2000 and 2019 Puerto Rico suffered 24 extreme weather events including Hurricane Maria which battered the island in 2017.

Second worst hit during the same time period was Myanmar followed by Haiti, Philippines and Mozambique.

Over 475,000 people lost their lives between 2000 and 2019 as a direct result of more than 11,000 extreme weather events, according to Global Climate Risk Index 2021

In March 2019, Mozambique was battered by cyclone Idai, which brought 105mph winds and triggered devastating floods.

Zimbabwe was the second worst affected country followed by the Bahamas, Japan and Malawi

Germanwatch says their frequency and severity will increase with every tenth of a degree in global average temperature rise.
