Wayward driver repeatedly bumps cars during failed parking attempt

This is the moment a motorist smashed into two other cars while trying to get into a parking space - before giving up altogether.

The driver was caught on camera bashing their silver Skoda vehicle into the cars as it tried to manoeuvre in and out of a large parking bay.

Video footage captured the motorist’s failed attempts to park without hitting other vehicles outside a KFC restaurant on Margate High Street in Kent at about 12.30pm last Friday.

The Skoda driver tried to parallel park between two other cars, but instead mounted the kerb then shunted into the car in front before reversing into the car behind.

After finally getting into the spot, the driver reconsidered and drove off without leaving their details.

Lisa Berry, who owns the black Vauxhall Astra in the clip that was repeatedly bashed, said it was the third time in less than a year that her car had been hit while parked near her home.

She had her car repainted and fitted with a new bumper only a few weeks before this incident.

In the footage, the Skoda mounts the pavement, before pausing and then appearing to accelerate into a small red hatchback parked in front, shunting it forwards.

The Skoda then reverses while swinging out into the road, as its left-hand side smashes into the black Vauxhall Astra parked behind it.

People walking by turn to look as the car judders and jolts and appears to mount the pavement again.

The car rests again for a moment within its parking bay, albeit at an angle.

But the driver then mounts the kerb again before reversing, pulling out of the space and driving away.

Footage of the bizarre incident was captured by Miss Berry, who lives nearby and has seen her hatchback repeatedly damaged and scratched, leaving her with large repair bills.

Her Vauxhall was damaged in the very same spot three weeks ago.

She said: "It cost well over £1,000 last time. Then my car before this one got written off in the same place when someone did exactly the same thing.

"When I saw it had happened again I couldn't believe it, it's so frustrating, what was the driver trying to do? You really couldn't make this up."

Miss Berry said she does not know how much the damage will cost to repair this time, but has thanked a passer-by who witnessed Friday's incident and managed to capture the number plate of the silver car before it sped away.

The incident has been reported to the Kent Police and officers are investigating.

A spokesman for the force said: "Kent Police were contacted on Friday, 21 May, 2021, and it was reported that, at around 12.25pm that day, a car had collided with two parked vehicles in Margate High Street.

"No injuries were reported. Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and locate the driver."
