An unseen Victorian photo of Queen Camilla’s distant royal relative has been discovered on eBay.

Adam Simpson-York found a Victorian cabinet card photo of Susan Mary Keppel, the sister of the Queen’s great-grandfather George Keppel, taken in June 1886 in either Regent Street or Cheapside, London.

He also found an original antique print of William Charles Keppel, the Earl of Albemarle, the Queen’s great-great-great-great grandfather, dating to 1845-1848.

Mr Simpson-York, a postman, sent the images to the Queen along with a bookmark for his Medals Going Home group, where he reunites families with their ancestor’s war medals and other memorabilia.

She replied in a letter, and said: “Thank you very much for your thoughtful letter and for the photographs of Susan Keppel and William Keppel, which I found fascinating!

“Thank you also for the bookmark, which will definitely be put to good use! With best wishes, Camilla.”

It is the second letter Mr Simpson-York has received from the Queen after he sent her the only known photo of her great, great grandmother Edrica Faulkner last year, which he had found on eBay for £9.95.

He said: “A few weeks ago I sent another letter to Queen Camilla containing some more pictures of her ancestors which I had picked up on eBay.

“Amazingly she took the time to reply again. Going to have to get another frame now.”

Mr Simpson-York runs the Facebook page Medals Going Home, where he reunites families with their ancestor’s war medals and other memorabilia.

He spends hours scouring eBay and other sites looking for treasure and then researches the items in the hope of finding modern-day relatives to give them to.
