Vet drowned with two dogs after car got stuck in ford on way to birthday party
A vet drowned in her car with her two dogs after becoming stuck in a ford on the way to a 30th birthday party.
Heike Mojay-Sinclare, 29, called 999 to say she was submerged in her car and was sinking, but didn't know exactly where she was, prompting a desperate hunt by emergency services.
An inquest heard that the car wasn't found until the following morning and the 29-year-old had drowned, according to the BBC.
Mojay-Sinclare was on her way to a birthday weekend celebration in December 2018 when she called 999 to say she was submerged in her car at Doles Lane, Derbyshire.
She told the handler, "I am sinking", but said she wasn't sure where she was, only that she was near Ashbourne.
The fire service tried three fords in the area but couldn't see a car in any of them.
After working out where she was, crews searched the water for hours but only found the car the next morning when the river level had dropped.
The inquest heard the vehicle had "dropped into a hole" and was found in a "deeper part" of the water.
Mojay-Sinclare's cause of death was drowning. The inquest heard a number of other people had also been stuck at the ford in the past.
The road is now closed, with only people who own certain land able to access it.
