Two women, 19 and 20, seriously injured after being 'deliberately driven at' by car

Police have launched an investigation after two women were left seriously injured after they were hit by a car that police believe was deliberately driven at them.

West Midlands Police said the car mounted the pavement before hitting the women, aged 19 and 20, then driving off.

It happened in Lower High Street, Wednesbury, West Midlands just before 1.45am on Sunday (11 July).

The women suffered serious injuries and were taken to hospital where they remain in a stable condition, police said.

The force said its investigation is in its early stages, but they believe the incident was a targeted attack.

In a witness appeal, West Midlands Police said Lower High Street had been cordoned off to allow officers to examine the scene and collect vital evidence, including CCTV.

Detective Inspector Gemma Black, from the force's CID, said: "I would appeal for any witnesses who were in the area at the time who have not yet spoken to us to get in touch."
