Two teenagers have been killed and three people remain in hospital after a crash involving three cars in Northumberland.

Police were called to the A192 Hartford Bank in Cramlington on Friday evening after it was reported that three cars – a Suzuki Vitara, a Range Rover Evoque and a Ford Focus – had collided.

Despite the efforts of paramedics and members of the public, 18-year-old Connor Lapworth from Blyth, who was in the Suzuki, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 15-year-old boy who was also in the Suzuki suffered serious head injuries and was taken to hospital, where he died on Dec 23. He has been named as Corey Mavin, also of Blyth.

Police said both families were being supported by specialist officers.

Appeal for information

A spokesman for Northumbria Police said: “A 41-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy, who were both also in the Suzuki, suffered serious injuries and were admitted to hospital, where they remain.

“The 36-year-old female driver of the Range Rover suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital. The 52-year-old female driver of the Ford Focus was uninjured. Officers are now asking any witnesses to the incident to come forward.”

Sergeant Russell Surrey, of Northumbria Police’s motor patrols department, said: “This is a tragic incident, and our thoughts are firmly with the family and loved ones of the two young people who have sadly lost their lives and those who have suffered injuries in this collision.

“We will offer them all of the support they need and ask that their privacy is respected at this time.

“We are asking that anyone who may have seen the moments leading up to the collision or have information regarding the three vehicles involved being driven in the area to contact us immediately.

“Anyone who has dashcam footage of the area around the time of the incident should also get in touch. Your information, no matter how small you feel it may be, could help us to ascertain exactly what happened.”
