Two teenagers charged with murder over stabbing of 13-year-old boy
Two teenage boys have been charged with murder after a 13-year-old boy was stabbed to death.
Jahziah Coke, 13, died after he was attacked in Oldbury, West Midlands, on Thursday.
The boys, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared at Birmingham magistrates’ court on Tuesday charged with his murder.
Flanked by five dock officers, the teenagers spoke only to confirm their names and that they understood what was happening, and showed no emotion during the short hearing.
John Bristow, the district judge, remanded them into youth detention accommodation to appear at Birmingham Crown Court on Thursday.
A man in his 40s who has been charged with assisting an offender between Aug 29 and Sept 1 appeared separately at Birmingham magistrates’ court on Tuesday morning and indicated a plea of not guilty.
He was remanded into custody by Judge Bristow to appear for a plea and trial preparation hearing at Birmingham Crown Court on Oct 1.
He also cannot be named for legal reasons.
Paying tribute to her son, Jahziah’s mother said: “Jahziah was a very polite, kind and family-orientated young man.
“He was very loving and always smiling. His smile would light up the room. He was very kind-hearted.”
The three charged will appear at Birmingham magistrates’ court today.
A statement released by West Midlands Police added: “At this stage, we are not looking for anyone else as part of our investigation.
“We have been carrying out CCTV enquiries in the area, but also need to hear from anyone with dash cam, doorbell, CCTV or phone footage that might help the investigation.”
