Moyes: Rice was worth £150m

12:23 , Matt Verri

David Moyes believes West Ham should have demanded £150m for Declan Rice.

The midfielder joined Arsenal last summer for £105m and enjoyed a stellar first season in north London, with his former manager not surprised with the level of performances.

“Sometimes you want to take credit but Mikel has done a great job with him,’ Moyes said on talkSPORT. “There were things that maybe Declan wasn’t as good at but I think he’s improved.

“He hasn’t really surprised me but I do laugh because a couple of years ago people were saying, “you’ll never get £100m for Declan”. I was saying, “no, we’ll get £150m for him”.

“I was telling West Ham to hold out for £150m and people were saying I was off my head. But I think if you look at some of the players who have come around that price, Dec’s surpassed them and looks above them.

“I think £100m is looking quite cheap to be honest.”

Likewise Inter Miami, who are keen according to TyC Sports and have even held talks.

However, they have filled their three designated player spots which means, under MLS rules, Varane would have to settle for a relatively demure salary in the range of £15,000-a-week.

“It was a huge honour to be able to lead this great club to a DFB Cup victory and most recently to a Champions League final.

“I asked those responsible for a meeting after our final at Wembley because after nine years at BVB, including six years on the coaching team and two and a half years as head coach, I feel that the upcoming new start should be accompanied by a new man on the sidelines.

“Everyone who knows me knows that during this decision-making process of the past few weeks, two hearts have been beating in my chest.

“But even after intensive discussions, my basic feeling has not changed.

“I wish Borussia Dortmund only the very best and say thank you and goodbye."

However, Williams has now reiterated his commitment to Athletic Club and insists he does not want any transfer distractions ahead of Euro 2024 with Spain.

“I am very happy at Athletic,” he told Spanish radio station Cope.

“It is the club that has given me everything, it is the club that has bet on me 100 per cent, I am very happy in Bilbao and that is what I have to say.

“I have it quite clear. Athletic is my home, I am very happy and what I want to do is focus on the Euros, which is very important because if you are not 100 per cent in a competition like this, it will pass you by and the rest, I do not know what is going to happen.

“I have told my representatives that I do not want to know anything until the Euros is over, I am 100 per cent focused and my desire is to win the Euros.”

It was reported by The Times earlier today that Ten Hag wants a firm grip on United’s transfer dealings with Jadon Sancho and Mason Greenwood due to be sold to bring in funds.
