Spate of gun violence in London after four incidents recorded within days

London has been hit with a spate of gun violence, with four incidents and one death in the past few days.

On Tuesday, police named a 25-year-old man who died after being shot in east London on Saturday evening in what was believed to be a "targeted attack".

Kacey Boothe was shot in Forest Rise, Walthamstow, shortly before 9.30pm and was then taken by car to hospital, where he died.

Police believe people at a party at a nearby community centre may have seen what happened and have urged witnesses to come forward.

Detective Chief Inspector Laurence Smith said: “While we have not yet made any arrests, we are working tirelessly to identify the person or persons responsible for this senseless act of violence.

“We know that there were a number of people in the area at the time of the attack, including people who were attending a party at the community centre nearby.

“It is vital that anyone with information comes forward and speaks to us. What may seem like an insignificant detail could be the key that unlocks this case.

“I understand that after such a serious incident, the prospect of talking to the police can be daunting. I want to reassure anyone who is having doubts that we understand the courage it takes and we are here to provide every support we can to those willing to help."

Meanwhile, three people, including a teenager, were injured after being shot in north-west London on Monday evening.

Armed police officers were called to Dog Lane in Neasden, Brent, just after 7pm.

A 17-year-old boy suffered non-life changing injuries, a 21-year-old man has a potentially life-changing injury and the third victim, thought to be in his early 20s, is in a serious but stable condition in hospital.

The Metropolitan Police said the suspect or suspects fled before officers arrived at the scene. Police gave the victims first aid before paramedics arrived.

Emergency crews treated one of the victims as they lay on the ground wrapped in foil.

One witness said: “The shooting was elsewhere. The man staggered along the road and fell.

“I saw him lying on the ground with the police around him.”

In Hackney, east London, there were two gun incidents within an hour of each other on Saturday.

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police's Specialist Crime and the Central East Command Unit are investigating two firearms discharges.

At 2.40am on Saturday, a man in his 20s was stabbed and shots were fired at Bohemia Place.

He was taken to hospital and his condition is not life-threatening.

Then, less than an hour later at 3.30am, shots were fired at a residential address in Corsley Way. No one was injured.

Detective Chief Inspector Robert Allen said: "I completely understand the considerable concern these two incidents will provoke, especially in light of a recent fatal shooting in a neighbouring borough.

"We are doing everything we can to understand whether there is any link. My officers are conducting a number of enquiries and further police resources have been deployed to the area to keep the public safe and provide reassurance.

"I believe the incident in Bohemia Place especially was witnessed by a number of people. If you have information that you think could help us with either incident, please do the right thing and make contact."

Detective Chief Inspector James Bray, Central East Command Unit, said: "Over the coming days local people will see an increased police presence within these areas. This is not to alarm anyone but to help keep you safe."
