The world's most unfriendly countries: Conde Nast Traveller survey
  • Mongolia ranked 131st out of 140 countries in a tourism report by the World Economic Forum. It received a score 5.49 out of 7 for its friendliness towards visitors.
  • It may be home to a laidback beach life in the summer but Bulgaria could be a little more relaxed towards tourists after scoring just 5.47 out of 7 for its friendliness and ranked 132 out of 140 countries.
  • In 133rd place is Slovakia. The Eastern European received a score of 5.47 out of 7 for its attitude towards foreign visitors.
  • Pakistan was named one of the world's most unfriendly countries, receiving a score of 5.27 out of 7 for welcoming visitors in the World Economic Forum report and coming in at 134 out of 140.
  • According to the World Economic Forum, Iran is one of the least tourist-friendly countries in the world. It ranked 135th and received a score of 5.2 out of 7 for friendliness towards visitors.
  • Latvia's locals were given a score of 5.2 out of 7 for friendliness towards tourists. When the World Economic Forum report was published, Economy Minister Daniels Pavluts defended the country saying residents are not the unfriendliest but are more self-critical about their attitude about tourists.

According to the World Economic Forum report, "safety and security are also of serious concern, with a high level of crime and violence and a lack of trust in the police to provide protection from crime."

  • The South American country came last in the report of 140 countries and received a score of just 4.09 out of 7 for its attitude towards visitors. On the up side, Bolivia came 8th in price competitiveness for travel and tourism due to its cheap hotel accommodation costs!
