  • Thought you couldn't afford to take the kids on a holiday this year? Think again! Many holiday companies are going out of their way to keep their prices down, with some very good-value deals for summer 2011...

  • Isle of Wight for £225

    Pitch your tent on a farm near Compton Bay on the Isle of Wight for some old-fashioned farmyard fun. Kids can feed the ducks, collect eggs, play on old tractors and run free on acres of downland at this working farm on National Trust land. Wightlink Green Getaways is offering a week for just £225, including return car ferry crossings from Portsmouth or Lymington.

  • Costa Blanca for £206

    Hole up in a two-bedroom apartment featuring all mod cons at Minipode Lomas Del Golf on the Costa Blanca with Villarenters. You'll enjoy access to no less than nine pools and you'll have your own enclosed garden when you fancy a bit of privacy. There are plenty of restaurants and bars to try out nearby and the Spanish city of Murcia is a 30-minute drive away. The price for a week is £206, leaving you enough to sort out ferry crossings or possibly snap up some cheap flights.

  • North Devon for £499

    Book a seven-night holiday in July in a fully equipped two-bedroom caravan holiday home at Woolacombe Bay Holiday Parks in North Devon for £499. There are more than 40 free on-site facilities here, including swimming pools, golf, fishing, tennis, cinema and kids' clubs for toddlers to teenagers. And you're ideally positioned to make the most of the huge Blue Flag beach at Woolacombe, too. Top tip: book online and you'll save £10.

  • Northumberland for £420


    Go glamping at the Pot a Doodle Do Wigwam Village (northumbrianwigwams.com) near Berwick on Tweed in Northumberland. Book one of the fun wooden wigwams – all insulated, and supplied with electricity and comfy beds – and you'll pay £420 a week. Or choose a yurt from £455 for a week. There's an on-site shop, licensed restaurant, Finnish barbecue hut, communal kitchen and shower block. Plus you can make the most of the craft centre, play area, fishing and quad biking. Nearby attractions include Holy Island and Alnwick Castle, which was used as the location for Hogwarts in the early Harry Potter films.

  • France for £444


    Stay in a two-bedroom apartment by a lake in Aquitaine, France, for £444 in August. Aureilhan in the heart of the Landes pine forest, 10km from the Atlantic coast, is the setting for Les Terrasses du Lac, a complex of 70 apartments with a swimming pool. This late-summer deal with La Grange Holidays also includes return Dover-Calais ferry crossings for a car with up to four passengers.

  • Scotland for £475

    Stay on the outskirts of historic Melrose (pictured), which is within easy reach of the Eildon Hills. Sleeping four, the property features elegant furnishings and state-of-the-art equipment and costs £475 for a week in July and August.

  • Italy for £487

    Spend a week on the Venetian Riviera with Venue Holidays. You don't have to even pitch the tent at the Ca'Savio site – a fully equipped one will be ready and waiting for you on arrival. Extras include direct access to a sandy beach, four swimming pools, football, cycle and pedalo hire and boules. Plus there's a restaurant and bar. A week in August costs from £487 including return Dover-Calais ferry crossings.

  • Northumberland for £491.50

    Active families should head for the beautiful Cheviot Hills. Wooler Youth Hostel - the most northerly hostel in England, once a base for the Women's Land Army - is offering a week's B&B for £491.40. This is the perfect gateway to St Cuthbert's Way, the Ravenber long-distance treks and plenty of other local day walks. Plus cyclists will be able to follow the way-marked Wooler cycle hub roots or even do part of the 200-mile Steel Bonnet cycle trail.

  • Devon for £499

    Get ready to surf the waves on the Devon coast. The aptly named Atlantic Spray, a stylish four-bed apartment in Westward Ho! could be your base. Marsdens Cottage Holidays is offering this property, set by the beach, with panoramic views of the Atlantic and Lundy Island, for £499 for certain weeks in July and August.

  • Britain for £504

    OK, so we're breaking our own rule here, but at £504 we couldn't miss the chance to suggest a week's tour of the British Isles in a 'glampervan' with Wicked Campers. Mystery Machine, Ghostbusters and Garfield are among the colourful designs spray-painted on these Toyota vehicles, which accommodate up to five. Each van comes with a large bed for three, cooking and dining equipment, a two-person tent, and CD player.
