California's known for its beaches, and this one does not disappoint. Take a short ferry ride across the bay (an enjoyable experience in itself) or drive over the stunning Coronado bridge. Once you've arrived, you'll be wowed by the vast, unspoilt sands. If you're brave, take a dip in the chilly Pacific, or stroll down to one of the beachside resorts and grab a spot of lunch. Buy a ticket for the ferry on the harbour or on board.

Swing by Petco Park, home to the San Diego Padres. You'll be treated to incredible panoramic views if you sit in the bleachers, or a close up of the players if you opt for pitch-side seats. If you've hired out a car, put a day aside to go explore the surrounding area. San Diego is on the border of Mexico, and it's worth a drive in that direction as you're taken through the mountains. Alternatively, wind your way up to one of the national parks - Anza-Borrego Desert State Park or Joshua Tree National Park are worth a look.
