Coolest hotel movie screens
  • Cairo's only boutique hotel, the Kempinski Nile Hotel, which overlooks the River Nile, has a shisha lounge with a twist. Shishawy is where guests can enjoy the finest tobacco and different tastes, like mint and apple, while watching old black and white classics, including Casablanca and Charlie Chaplin. There's something about this retro Egyptian cafe that makes you feel part of one of the classic films you're watching!

  • We're in love with the utterly sumptuous screening room at the Public Chicago hotel. The luxury fur throws, plumped-up cushions and perfectly-shaped sofas for lounging are everything a film buff could want from watching a movie at home and in the cinema. To make things even cosier there are candles dotted around the room creating a warm atmosphere. As well as showing your favourite movies, the 110-inch screen has special children's film showings on weekends with popcorn and sweets available.

  • Malmaison Manchester is one step ahead when it comes to bringing the cinematic experience to its guests and boasts five Cinema Suites so you don't have to share a cinema screen or even leave your room to watch a film. You can sink into a velvet sofa and watch the movie of your choice on the 52-inch projector screen with designer surround sound and automatic blackout curtains so you won't have any light coming into the room. Being just moments from your bed you can bring your DVD collection and watch as many films as you can fit into your hotel stay!

  • Head to the Six Senses Zighy Bay hotel on the northern Musandam Peninsula in Oman where you can experience an exciting take on the classic drive-in theatre. At the hotel's Cinema Paradiso, you can watch films on the beach at the open-air cinema complete with ice cream, cocktails and popcorn in unique flavours. The audience is sprawled on comfortable loungers, candles are lit and guests are given personal stereo surround sound wireless head phones to hear the film with the effects of being in a traditional cinema. What better way to watch the latest flick or an old classic than in front of dramatic mountains with the waves gently crashing?

  • At film director Francis Ford Coppola's Italian hotel Palazzo Margherita in the Basilicata region you can get comfortable in the beautiful salon and watch none other than Coppola's personally chosen classic Italian films and documentaries. Federico Fellini's 1960 film La Dolce Vita, the 1988 classic Cinema Paradiso by Giuseppe Tornatore and Joseph L. Mankiewicz's 1963 movie Cleopatra are just some of the 300 titles. There are also some animated films and horrors that you can snuggle up and watch on an evening at the luxury yet authentic palazzo.

  • Ok, so we know there's no shortage of hotels with their own standard cinemas these days but we think the Royal Monceau in Paris is extra special as not only is it the first hotel in Paris to have its own movie theatre, it's also the work of world-renowned interior designer Philippe Starck and it serves pink popcorn by top patissier Pierre Herme. The elegant screening room seats 100 (with one pink chair) and is open to hotel guests and the public every Saturday with family-friendly films in 3D, old classics and new releases. Perfect for pre-tea viewing before you retire to one of the hotel's luxury bedrooms!

  • Not only has this palace in Slovenia hosted many film legends, including Sofia Loren, Charlie Chaplin and Leonardo di Caprio, it also has a cinema in its garden so you can see some film stars on screen. In Kempinski Palace Portoroz's lush garden overlooking the Adriatic Sea, you can enjoy an ever changing movie programme with films for the kids and adults. There are comfy sofa beds for you to lounge on and a team of waiters that will discreetly bring you drinks and snacks as you watch a flick with stars in the sky and the gentle sound of the waves in the background setting the mood.

  • The Maldives are the epitome of relaxation with fabulous spas, all-out luxury hotels and idyllic beaches, and at the One&Only Reethi Rah you can experience a perfect evening on the beach watching a film at its outdoor cinema on the sand under a palm tree. There are beanbags for a cosy yet simple way to relax, a bar close by serving tropical cocktails, candles everywhere and a popcorn machine set up on the beach. Paradise!

  • As if having a rooftop pool wasn't enough, The Standard LA has given its guests the extra treat of movies projected on the walls of neighbouring buildings so you can watch them from the water in its turquoise, heated pool. In addition to this super-cool feature (although you may not want to watch an entire film from the pool unless you want wrinkly skin!), the hotel's rooftop features a deep red Astroturf sundeck, a dancefloor, bar, vibrating waterbed pods and an outdoor fireplace. Only in the silver-screen city of dreams could such a concept exist!

  • The Six Senses Yao Noi resort in Phuket, Thailand wants its guests to experience the spectacular setting on the exquisite island of Yao Noi so much that it's set up an outdoor movie screen on the beach, which overlooks Phang Nga Bay with lush, tropical forests as a backdrop. Here you can watch classics, like Apollo 13 and Indochine that are projected on an enormous piece of white cloth attached to poles and dug into the sand. You'll recline on daybeds while the staff bring you bamboo-wrapped cones of popcorn. Now that's an exotic cinematic experience!
