Celebrity spotting in Britain
  • Head to the upmarket London suburb Primrose Hill for its superb views of London. Celebs like Jamie Oliver, Kate Moss and Jude Law know what we're talking about as they're often seen at the local pubs or on the hill. The best time for discreet celeb spotting is in the summer when you can spend time in the local pubs, like The Lansdowne, without having to hide behind your umbrella!

  • This private members' club with a hotel and spa has attracted the likes of Elizabeth Hurley, Daisy Lowe and Cameron Diaz to its exclusive setting in the Somerset countryside. Babington House is luxurious and chic - everything an A-lister wants in a break from the paparazzi. The hotel is open to members and non-members, making a stay in its stylish rooms your best bet for rubbing shoulders with the celebs.

  • Visit the pretty beach town of Salcombe in Devon where you could bump into locals Sir Michael Parkinson, Kate Bush and Sir Clive Woodward. Geri Halliwell is also a fan. The upmarket seaside spot, known as Chelsea-on-the-sea, is favoured by the stars for its gorgeous beaches, yacht club and beautiful beach houses. Salcombe is as delightful in the winter as it is in the summer, when there aren't as many yachties about!

  • Have a night out in Manchester, where you're sure to see some Manchester United football players and their WAGs at the city's top hangouts. The bar of the Malmaison Hotel, the Lowry Hotel's restaurant, private members club The Circle Club and glamorous casino and bar Manchester235 are just a few of the places that are great for celeb spotting. Musician Jay-Z is also a fan of the city and once hosted an after-show party at posh pan-Asian restaurant and bar Ithaca.

  • The Scottish town of St Andrews is filled with celebrities in October when The Alfred Dunhill Links Championship takes place, attracting the biggest golf fans. The event sees the stars paired with pro golfers to compete in the annual tournament. The likes of Hugh Grant, Huey Lewis and Michael Douglas have taken part and quite often the celebs turn up at student parties while they're in town. The town is well-known for St Andrews University too, which was attended by Prince William and Kate, plus actor Dougray Scott was born in St Andrews and returns when he needs a break from Hollywood!

  • There are plenty of celebrity pub hangouts around the country, but The Hawley Arms in the heart of Camden has real rock star status, favoured by Razorlight's Johnny Borrell, Mark Ronson and Kelly Osborne. The late Amy Winehouse was often seen here too and the local celebrity haunt is known for its excellent live gigs and beer. The friendly local also has a roof terrace, a jukebox and sweet jars!

  • Pretty Cotswold village Kingham in Oxfordshire was once named England's favourite village and its traditional tranquillity with modern vibrancy has attracted Blur guitarist-turned-cheese maker Alex James, who lives here. The unspoilt village has two hotels, a shop and The Plough pub, where you're likely to bump into Mr James. Kate Moss and Elizabeth Hurley have homes in nearby Cotswold villages too.

  • The rich and famous love this tiny north Cornwall resort town with its suburban charm. You won't find cobbled streets or tea shops in Rock, but it does have a glorious beach with miles of white sand, a pub and a sailing school. So who comes here, you ask? It's only a haunt for such folk as Princes William and Harry, Jemima Khan, Hugh Grant, Jay Kay and Harry Enfield! David and Samantha Cameron have been here on holiday too.

  • Want to spy celebrities in Glasgow? Head to the super-stylish Malmaison hotel, which has seen Lily Allen, Jay-Z and the Scissor Sisters grace its champagne bar. When Hollywood heartthrob Ewan McGregor is in town he goes to hidden gem Arta, which is one of Glasgow's most decadent bars with oil paintings, sweeping staircases and statues. The Ubiquitous Chip has been one of the city's coolest hangouts for over 30 years with previous diners including Mick Jagger, Orlando Bloom and Billy Boyd. And for partying Oasis-style, King Tut's Wah Wah Hut is the home of indie, where the band was discovered - a good place to spot the next up and coming acts.

  • The quiet island of Anglesey in North Wales is home to Prince William and Kate, who love the place so much they chose to start married life in their five-bedroom cottage rather than at a royal residence in London. The royals are often seen out and about with William a fan of The White Eagle pub, where he is said to attend pub quizzes with his RAF chums stationed just up the road. The couple have also been spied shopping in Waitrose in Beaumaris and walking in Newborough Forest. Other celebrities who are rumoured to escape to the picturesque island include Madonna and John Travolta.
