Celebrate Spring
  • Nothing announces the arrival of spring more than a baby lamb. Take the family to visit newborn lambs throughout March at Marsh Farm, Woodham Ferrers, Essex and if you are lucky you may even see one being born. There's a nice tea-room to enjoy too. In April there will also be newborn chicks and rabbits and from March 29 to April 12, children can join in their Easter Eggstravaganza and hunt easter bunnies to win a chocolate prize. Adults from £7.50, children from £5.50, children under 2 free.

  • Don't miss the bulbs at Clovelly Court Gardens, North Devon, which features masses of tulips as well as snowdrops and daffodills. The woodland walk is lined with rhodedendrons and magnolias and elsewhere in the grounds, peach and magnolias are in blossom. Visitors can take home spring vegetables from the Victorian Kitchen Garden and take part in the village fudge hunt from March 29 to April 7. Admission to Clovelly Village is Adults £6.50, Children £4, or access to the gardens only is by small donation.

  • One of the best spots to see these beautiful flowers is at Ashridge, Hertfordshire, where you'll find a 1.5 mile marked woodland trail has a stunning display of bluebells. They're at their best in April and May beneath the bright-green beech canopy. Red kites can often be seen and you can pick up an I-Spy leaflet from the Visitors' Centre. You can download a wildlife walk from the National Trust.

  • This is the perfect time to visit an award-winning park and farm such as Odds Farm Park in Buckinghamshire, where you can handle fluffy chicks as well as bottle feed lambs and kid goats. There are also donkeys, cows, piglets and more to meet plus a great children's indoor play barn with rope swings, ball pit and huge slides. Adults £9.50, children £8.50.

  • This month, garden shows and festivals are springing up all over the country. At Falmouth Spring Festival you'll find plant sales, guided walks, a Zumba Zestifal and food and craft fairs at various locations around the town as well as the chance to visit the Glendurgan Garden's tea house cafe for a special 2 for 1 price on cakes. Other highlights include a daily rock pooling extravaganza, painting the town yellow with daffodils and a cider fayre for the grownups. 14 to 24 March.

  • Don't miss the New Life events at WWT Wetland Centre Arundel, West Sussex, where you can spot ducklings, goslings and cygnets. Families can follow the new Discovery Trail through the reserve and take part in crafty activities and watch the daily Diving Duck Feed. You may also spot kingfishers, water voles and hundreds of other wildfowl, plus there are free boat safaris and a tree creeper play area. Throughout April. Adults £11.50, Children over 4 £5.80, under-4s free.

  • See the piglets at Roves Farm, Swindon, where children can bottle-feed lambs and goats, cuddle smaller animals in Pets Corner, play in indoor and outdoor play areas and enjoy a free tractor ride at this 166 hectare working farm. At weekends from Easter and during school holidays you can watch animals race for charity and there is a huge bale stack for both adults and children to explore with torches. Adults £8, Children £7.

  • Yes, the country is turning yellow. To admire Wordsworth's favourite flowers in their full glory, visit Docton Mill, Devon, where you'll find over 12,000 daffodils as well as magnolias, narcissi and early tulips plus a tearoom for a fantatic Devon cream tea There's also a wildlife pond, vegetable garden and bog garden and an area where visitors can buy plants. Adults £4.50, seniors £4.25, under-17s free of charge.

  • Go on - the kids will love it. Check out the Easter Egg Hunt at Burton Agnes Hall, East Yorkshire, where there are woodlands, lawns, a maze, a jungle garden and coloured gardens with giant board games for the children. March 31 to April 1. £6 adults, £3.50 children.

  • Spring is a great time for birdwatching. At Caerlaverock, Dumfriesshire, Scotland, you can try to spot spring migrant warblers and Barn Owls from March and Ospreys in and around their nests from April. Watch wild swans feeding outside a comfortable observatory while drinking Fairtrade tea and coffee and spot badgers on their CCTV webcam feeds from 5pm. Adults £7.50, Children £2.50. Tickets must be booked in advance.
