Brilliant destinations for late summer getaways
  • By late September, the crowds and the oppressive temperatures have disappeared, making it the perfect time to visit Cyprus. Get out of the party towns of Pafos and Agia Napa and head to the rugged coastline of the North. Kyrenia (Girne), an impossibly pretty fishing village bordered by turquoise waters, combines history, culture and incredible weather. Brave the Kyrenia (Girne) mountain range to find gothic fairytale castles left by the displaced French dynasty or head further north into the Cyprus of yesterday: tiny villages, olive trees and a rolling patchwork of mediterranean fields and hills.

  • Food, wine, art, incredible countryside and architecture to die for, Italy has it all. Take a trip to Florence, a town jam-packed with culture, history and ridiculously good restaurants. In peak season, from July to August, Florence is also packed with tourists. Come September the tourists have lessened and the heat has cooled making the Tuscany region an ideal getaway.

  • Lilac fields, undulating farmland, yellow-stone villages, incredible produce and the azure waters of the Cote D'Azur make Provence the perfect late summer escape. In September the temperature is a warm 22 degrees, ideal for sightseeing or just relaxing and taking in the view.

  • Welcome to Miami, with its cosmopolitan lifestyle, stretch of impossibly white beach and year-round sunshine tops most peoples holiday wishlists. Head to Florida in late Summer when the humidity starts to break and the summer thunderstorms subside to catch Miami's best side.

  • If you thought Ibiza was just a party town for the summer holidays then think again. By late September the techno tourists start to leave the island and it's an ideal time to head to the unspoilt, sleepy northeast. Take in the thick pine forests peppered with fig, olive and almond trees and rediscover the orginal Ibiza that the hippies forst fell for back in the 60s.

  • Temperatures in the Algarve can soar past 30 degrees, but by mid-September, when the peak tourist season is over and the heat subsides, Portugal and the Algarve make for a brilliant late summer escape. Explore the craggy coastline in kayaks or trek to find secluded beaches carves into the cliffs to soak up the last of the summer sun.

  • Spain has scorching summers and the heat can hit 45 degrees in the city, but it mellows in September. Take a trip to the stunning Seville, the homeland of flamenco with a city centre steeped in culture and some of the country's best tapas.

  • A slice of paradise with pristine beaches, aqua waters, swaying palms and endless sunshine, Mauritius is heaven on earth. It can also be hellishly hot in the summer months from December to April. Island hop from September to November to experience more manageable temperatures and cool sea breezes.

  • Towering skyscrapers, green spaces, a cracking theatre and restaurant culture and excellent shopping makes New York a holiday hotspot. Summer temperatures top the mercury at 100 degrees farenheit and tunderstorms rip through this picture-postcard city. Head over the pond when the weather calms down in September and October and before the winter chill sets in.

  • Cape Town stands proudly, surrounded by beaches, vineyards and domintated by the rugged heights of Table Mountain. This cosmopolitan hub has become the landing place for galleries and art installations, from the brightly-painted facades of Bo-Kaap to chic boutiques and craft shops, Cape Town is a hive of creativity. The weather is at best unpredictable and having four seasons in one day is not unheard of.

  • Glamour, show and glitz, this ostentatious city is where jetsetters, city slickers and celebrities mingle in the shadows of futuritsic high rise buildings and luxury hotels. Shop till you drop or laze on the pristine beaches when the punishing heat in Dubai has abated in late summer.

  • With sublime temples, exquisite food and a business backbone, Beijing is the capital to watch in the 21st century. Summer seasons can be sweltering in this city, with smog and pollution reducing visability to a minimum. September to November is the perfect time to visit this bustling city as the tourists have cleared out and the temperatures have dropped to pleasant instead of unbearable.

  • A urban wonderland of street markets, restaurants, parks and architectural skyscrapers and temples make Seoul and exciting destination for the 21st century. Visit in October and the surrounding hills of Seoul are ablaze with autumn colour.

  • With its eclectic mix of run down neighbourhoods and slick city distrcts, mellow days spent sampling local cusine and frenzied nights learning to tango, Buenos Aires is an unforgettable destination. Take a trip in their Spring, which is our September - Novemeber to get the best of the weather.

  • Head to the desert expanse of Jordan, home to ruined Roman cities, ancient castles, desert citadels and its most famous construction, the magical Nabataean city of Petra. Fly to Jordan in late summer when the punishing desert heat is calmed.
