Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power has officially wrapped filming on season two and shared an exciting update about the show's future.

Now that filming on the highly-anticipated second season is complete, Rings of Power is expected to return later this year, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

This comes two years after the first season of the Lord of the Rings prequel series debuted on Prime Video.

However, the release window confirmation isn't the only exciting news for fans as the hit fantasy show may also have a future beyond season two.

Rings of Power creators Patrick McKay and JD Payne have reportedly started putting early ideas together for season three, though a writers room has not yet been opened and a third season is not yet official.

McKay and Payne have struck an exclusive three-year deal with Amazon MGM Studios. As part of the deal, they will also launch their own production company, 10:40 Productions. The agreement will grant Amazon MGM Studios exclusive rights to all TV projects.

"We can't wait for Prime Video customers to experience the epic adventure and high-stakes drama that JD and Patrick are continuing to build throughout season two and beyond."

For season three, Amazon is planning to move production from Bray Film Studios to a new production facility at nearby Shepperton Studios.
