Proof that teaching’s going down the pan

• How disgraceful (Headteachers forced to mend desks and unblock toilets after cuts in England, 28 April). When I was a secondary teacher, that job would have been delegated to a head of department.

• As an extremely bald man, I’ve been cheered by the many positive letters about that affliction (Letters, 24 April). However, it is worth remembering a more sober maxim: “If you go bald at the front of your head, it’s because you think. If you go bald at the back, it’s because you’re sexy. If you go bald all over, it’s because you think you’re sexy.”

• I was surprised to find no mention of the free Libby app among ideas to get people reading (Letters, 28 April). This ebook and audiobook resource from the library means that I always have one book on the go and several “on hold”. I can read wherever I am, on my phone, in the middle of the night without waking anyone. I’m on my 24th book since the start of the year. A life-changer.
