Prince William has had first Covid vaccine as he thanks those working on rollout

Prince William has confirmed he has had the first dose of the coronavirus vaccine.

The Duke of Cambridge, 38, posted a photo on social media on Thursday morning, confirming he had the first dose on Tuesday.

He did not disclose which vaccine he had received.

With the picture, he wrote: "On Tuesday I received my first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.

"To all those working on the vaccine rollout – thank you for everything you’ve done and continue to do."

The rollout in the UK was extended to those aged 38 and 39, making the duke eligible, last week.

His wife Kate is 39, and so is likely to have already had hers, though Kensington Palace has not confirmed this.

On Wednesday, it was also confirmed that the rollout would be extended again with those aged 34 and 35 next to receive a text message that they will be able to book an appointment.

On Instagram the picture of William was location marked with the Science Museum, indicating that is where he went for his dose.

The museum is close to his home of Kensington Palace.

William wore a medical face covering and a teal jumper for the occasion, rolling his sleeve up as the jab was administered.

While the palace has not confirmed what type of vaccine William received, concerns over blood clots linked to the Oxford-AstraZeneca Jab mean under-40s are being offered Pfizer or Moderna.

Buckingham Palace took the unusual step earlier this year of confirming the Queen, now 95, and her husband Prince Philip, then 99, had their coronavirus vaccines as soon as it was available to them.

Prince Charles and Camilla also confirmed they were given the jab, and Camilla went onto discuss which one she had been given when on a hospital engagement.

She said she had the Oxford dose, but that she was not concerned about which one she had received.

William previously said of his grandparents: "My grandparents have had the vaccine and I am very proud of them for doing that. It is really important that everyone gets the vaccine when they are told to."

The father of three had coronavirus in April last year, but Kensington Palace did not disclose it at the time, because his father, Prince Charles, had also tested positive for it.

Boris Johnson, the prime minister, was in hospital around the same time battling the disease.
