Prince Philip being treated for infection, Buckingham Palace confirms

Watch: Prince William says Prince Philip is doing 'OK' in hospital

Prince Philip is being treated for an infection and likely won't leave hospital for several days, Buckingham Palace has confirmed.

The Duke of Edinburgh, 99, has been in hospital for a week, at the King Edward VII private hospital in central London.

In a short statement, Buckingham Palace said: “The Duke of Edinburgh remains at King Edward VII’s Hospital where he is receiving medical attention for an infection.

“He is comfortable and responding to treatment but is not expected to leave hospital for several days.”

He was taken in last Tuesday on his doctor's advice, though the palace stressed it was out of "an abundance of caution".

It was understood he was not being treated for anything coronavirus related. He and the Queen have had their first coronavirus vaccines.
