Police launch murder hunt after man, 60, dies in hit and run

A murder investigation is underway after a 60-year-old man was killed after being hit by a van which failed to stop. Two other people were seriously injured.

The crash took place at about 11.35pm on Friday in Stockton-on-Tees. Witnesses reported hearing a loud bang followed by shouting.

The 60-year-old victim died at the scene and two other people were seriously injured and taken to hospital.

Cleveland Police said detectives are appealing for information about a white van seen in the area at the time.

A spokesperson for Cleveland Police said: “Cleveland Police has launched a murder investigation after a man sadly died following an incident in Ingleby Barwick.

“Officers were called to Myton Way, Ingleby Barwick, at around 11.35pm on Friday evening (Feb 9) following a fail to stop collision.

“A 60-year-old man sadly passed away at the scene. Our thoughts remain with his family at this extremely difficult time and our specially trained officers will be offering support to them. Two other people were also seriously injured during the incident and were taken to hospital.”

One witness said:there were up to six ambulances and around 15 police vehicles present.

A woman whose house looks out onto the road said: “I just heard bangs and then screaming.

“We looked out of the window and there were people running around the road.”
