Andrew Tate to be extradited to UK over sex abuse allegations

Andrew Tate, the controversial social media influencer, and his brother will be extradited from Romania to the UK for alleged sexual offences, a court has confirmed.

Mr Tate, 37 and his brother, Tristan, 35, appeared at the Bucharest Court of Appeal on Tuesday, after claims that they were intending to flee the country.

Befordshire Police confirmed that it had obtained a European arrest warrant for extradition as part of rape and human trafficking allegations against the brothers.

The brothers, from Luton, are also facing sexual assault charges in Romania and are due to go on trial at a date yet to be fixed.

The Bucharest court postponed the extradition until proceedings in the country against the pair were concluded.

Arrest warrants were issued by Westminster magistrates’ court on Monday for the brothers following allegations of sexual offences dating from 2012 to 2015.

The brothers were arrested on Monday evening at their home near the capital Bucharest, and have since been released from custody.

The pair “unequivocally deny” the allegations against them, their lawyer said following the hearing.

A representative for the pair said that they were “fully committed to challenging these accusations with unwavering determination and resolve”.

In a statement, they added: “They categorically reject all charges and express profound disappointment that such serious allegations are being resurrected without substantial new evidence.”

Lawyers representing four British women who have accused Andrew Tate of rape and sexual assaults say that they wrote to police last week after learning he may have been preparing to leave Romania, where he and his brother face rape and human trafficking charges.

‘Vast amount of disinformation’

Matthew Jury, a managing partner at McCue Jury and Partners, said: “Today’s news is very welcome as it has been a significant concern to many that Tate would seek to avoid justice in Romania and abroad.

“We are grateful to the British authorities for taking our concerns seriously and issuing an arrest warrant.

“Since his arrest in Romania, Tate has spread a vast amount of disinformation about the criminal allegations he faces in the UK in a series of high-profile interviews with individuals such as Piers Morgan and Tucker Carlson.

“We hope these recent developments will discourage them and others from continuing to give Tate such a platform or, at least, encourage them to properly interrogate him on the allegations.”

The Tate brothers have previously been in jail and later under house arrest since being detained in December 2022.

They won an appeal in August 2023 to be released from house arrest as they await trial on a date which has yet to be decided, but were ordered not to leave Romania.

The brothers were charged alongside two Romanian women who are accused of being part of the alleged organised crime group.

It is alleged that all four formed the group in 2021 to commit human trafficking in Romania and other countries, including the UK and the US.

Born in Washington DC, Andrew Tate is a former kickboxer and Big Brother contestant who gained millions of fans on social media after styling himself as the “king of toxic masculinity”.

Banned from Instagram and Facebook in 2022, he has used social media to share his controversial views with male fans, including comparing women to dogs and claiming that women were the property of their husbands.

The Telegraph has approached Bedfordshire Police for comment.
