Nine-year-old boy’s freak death on soccer pitch
A nine-year-old boy died on a soccer pitch after the goalposts toppled forwards and hit him on the head.
The tragic incident took place in the Paraguayan city of Pedro Juan Caballero on Monday.
According to local media, the young victim - named as Igor Cubas - was playing on the pitch with relatives and other children when the tragedy happened.
Goalposts at one end of the pitch suddenly fell forwards and the nine-year-old boy was struck on the head by the crossbar corner.
The posts appeared to be just leaning against a wall before they collapsed.
In CCTV a girl can be seen entering the pitch and climbs the side netting, appearing to be the cause of the collapse. She quickly dismounts as the frame begins to fall.
After being hit by the metal post, little Igor’s family and friends rushed to help him but he was unresponsive. One photo from local media shows a significant amount of blood on the pitch next to the boy.
Video shows the goalposts being pushed back into an upright position before adults can be seen rushing in and out of the pitch area to get help.
