A Metropolitan Police car collided with a pedestrian and a lamppost following a chase with a suspected thief on an e-scooter.

Officers on patrol in Westminster had attempted to stop the individual on the electric scooter at around 2.40pm on Monday, the Met said.

The marked police car was then involved in a collision with a pedestrian and a lampost on Bayswater Road, west London.

An ambulance was called to the junction between Bayswater Road and Lancaster Terrace at about 2.46pm. Road closures were in place on Monday afternoon.

Injuries not life-threatening

One member of the public was taken to a major trauma centre with two others treated at the scene. The pedestrian’s injuries are not thought to be life-threatening, officers said.

The rider was arrested on suspicion of robbery and remains in custody. The Directorate of Professional Standards has been notified, the Met said.

A London Ambulance Services spokesperson said: “We were called on January 29 at 2.46pm to reports of an incident at the junction between Bayswater Road and Lancaster Terrace. We sent some resources to the scene, including two ambulance crews and an incident response officer.

“We treated three people, one of whom was taken to a major trauma centre. The other patients were discharged at the scene.”
