Meet the world's youngest TV news presenter - an 11-year-old schoolboy who anchors his very own show from his bedroom every day.

Hugh Murphy got interested in the news at the start of the pandemic and started making his own mini newspaper to share more positive stories to cheer up his pals.

He was soon hooked - and launched his own news channel Good Morning News, complete with website and YouTube channel.

Armed with a Westminster skyline backdrop and a teleprompter he bought with his pocket money, he records a show from his bedroom after his tea each night.

The mini journo is a dab hand at a piece to camera, pounding the pavements to file reports on the likes of shootings and protests near his home.

Despite his young age, he edits news bulletins all by himself as well as conducting live interviews with his regular guest star - his grandma Audrey Pickering, 89.

He often uses ITV news as his inspiration, writing his own speeches and giving comment pieces on topics like coronavirus, transport, politics and education.

While most of his viewers are his friends and family, his reports have clocked up more than 3,500 views.

And the schoolboy anchor is content to just get some practice in for his future dream job - presenting Good Morning Britain with his hero Kate Garraway.

Hugh from Enfield, north London, said: "I just really enjoy telling the news and sharing interesting stories.

"I love it when people watch my videos and say 'thanks Hugh, I didn't know that before'.

"It's feedback like that that motivates me to keep doing it."

Hugh's mum, Nicola Murphy, a travel agent, added: “This is how Hugh spends all his time – he is forever on his laptop planning and editing.

“He took such an interest in news at the start of the pandemic and he had quickly memorised all the figures and data – he's a total news buff.

“He does everything for himself – from filming to editing – in fact it’s often me coming to Hugh for technology advice and news updates!

“I am so proud of him and I’m sure if he carries on this way he’ll do very well.

"Anything topical he is interested in - he loves it.

"He does all his own research, filming and editing too - I haven't had to assist him with anything.

"In fact, sometimes I go to him for technology assistance!"

Hugh reports on everything from national politics to local news.

He picks up stories from a variety of sources and even gets out on the ground with his mum to report on live events.

Earlier this year, with the help of his cousin, Emily Hillier, 29, Hugh took the leap and established his own news website - Good Morning News - as a platform to share his work.

Outside of school hours, he's usually found in his bedroom filming and editing new content.

His YouTube channel has amassed a combined total of over 3,500 views, and has been watched for more than 50 hours in total.

Hugh said: "If we hear something is going on and it isn't too far, we'll go with my equipment and see what's happening.

"Sometimes it just happens in the moment too - we were out once and bumped into a big protest happening in London. So obviously we had to cover it!"

The news buff already has his sights set on studying journalism at university and hopes to one day work amongst top-class broadcast journalists.

Nicola said: "He's smart, but he isn't a boffin at all - he just loves doing it.

"He is forever on his laptop editing and things for his YouTube channel and website."

She told how despite being so young, Hugh's dedication and love for news reporting makes her sure he'll achieve all his goals.

Hugh said: "This is what I want to do for my career and I don't see that changing."
