Man fined £400 for sharing intimate pictures of woman's herpes

A man has been fined after sharing pictures of a woman's herpes - believed to be the first revenge porn prosecution for disclosing images of an STI in the UK.

Badr Laabichi sent images to a friend and texted the victim, telling her: "I’m going to ruin your life."

On another occasion, 32-year-old Laabichi also grabbed another woman by the throat in front of a horrified witness.

He admitted disclosing a sexual photo and common assault when he appeared at Worcester Crown Court on Wednesday.

Laabichi, who has already served time on a curfew, was handed a 30-month community order and a three-year restraining order.

He was also ordered to pay the victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons, £400 compensation.

The judge said Moroccan-born Laabichi would have his immigration status "reviewed".

Judge Nicolas Cartwright said: "These were private, embarrassing, intimate images.

"What is beyond doubt is that you behaved appallingly.

"Anyone who realised such an image of themselves had been sent to anyone else would be horrified.

"The time you have spent on curfew and remand would entirely swallow up any prison sentence I was able to pass under the law and the sentencing guidelines.”

The court heard Laabichi shared the intimate photo in March 2016 and assaulted the second victim in June 2017.

Simon Phillips, prosecuting, said: "The defendant disclosed to another photos showing symptoms of that infection (herpes).

"It came as a shock to him, when out of the blue, he received the messages and the photographs from the defendant."

The prosecutor read out two victim personal statements from the victim.

In one she said: "It's haunted me for the past two years. I'm still embarrassed and degraded by the whole matter."

Phillips said: "It's clear some distress was caused to the victim."

One message Laabichi sent to the victim said: "I'm going to ruin your life."

At the time of the offences, he had no previous convictions but has since been convicted of obstructing a police officer.
