Man dies in suspected base jumping accident at radio mast
A man has been killed in a suspected base jumping accident at a communications mast in Leicestershire.
Emergency services rushed to farmland off the A47 near the village of Skeffington, at 9pm on Thursday.
The victim, who has not been named, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officers were told the man had been base jumping from a radio mast, Leicester Live reported.
A Leicestershire Police spokesperson said: “Police were called by East Midlands Ambulance Service at around 9pm last night (16 December) to Uppingham Road in Skeffington following a report of a man found deceased.
“On attendance it was reported the man had been BASE jumping from a tower.

“The death is being treated as unexplained but is not suspicious.
“A file will be prepared for HM Coroner.
“Identification of the deceased is a matter for the Coroner.”
Base jumpers fall freefall from fixed objects such as masts, high buildings, mountains and cliffs before deploying a parachute to descend to the ground.
It’s considered to be one of the most dangerous extreme sports.
