A man has been arrested on suspicion of the murder of an 86-year-old widow 11 years ago.

Retired postmistress Una Crown was found dead in her bungalow in Wisbech, Cambridgeshire, in January 2013 after her throat was slit and her body set on fire.

Cambridgeshire police said the 69-year-old man, also from Wisbech, remains in custody at Thorpe Wood Police Station in Peterborough.

An inquest into Crown’s death in 2015 heard Cambridgeshire Police missed “clear signs” of her murder during an initial investigation in which officers believed she had died in an accident.

Crown was found in a pool of blood and with her clothing burnt in the hallway of her home.

Her death was initially treated as an accident when she was found by emergency workers on January 13, after family and neighbours became concerned for her welfare.

A murder investigation was launched four days later.
