London travel news LIVE: Delays ease on M25 near Heathrow Airport as road reopens after fatal crash

A man in his 70s has died after a van and lorry crashed on the M25 near Heathrow Airport, the Met police has confirmed.

Police and ambulance crews rushed to the scene on the M25 clockwise at junction 14 around 9.35am.

Paramedics performed CPR on the driver of the van, a man thought to be in his 70s, but he died at the scene, the Met confirmed on Monday afternoon.

The M25 was completely closed clockwise for around four hours following the crash and a diversion was put in place, with traffic tailing back around five miles.

Two lanes reopened around 1.40pm, and the road had fully opened by around 3.15pm.

The driver of the truck did not suffer any serious injuries in the crash, said police. No arrests have been made.

No major disruption on reopened M25

The M25 in Surrey has reopened eight hours ahead of schedule after the first planned daytime closure of the motorway.

A five-mile stretch between junctions 10 and 11 closed in both directions at 9pm on Friday and was due to open at around 6am on Monday.

However, following works to demolish a bridge and install a huge gantry, it reopened at just after 10pm on Sunday.

The National Highways South-East (NHSE) said on X, formerly Twitter: "We'd like to say a massive thank you to everyone for your patience and following our travel advice."

There is no major disruption reported on the motorway on its first morning open after the works.

Minor delays on Piccadilly Line

Two miles of traffic backing up after M25 crash

Slow-moving traffic is backing up for around two miles on the M25 anticlockwise in Essex.

The traffic is on the stretch from junction 29 at the A127 (Romford/Basildon) to junction 28, for the A12 (Brentwood/Brook Street Roundabout).

Traffic monitoring system Inrix says it comes after a crash that happened shortly after 6am.

Animals on railway disrupt south-west London trains

Trains running through Barnes Bridge in south-west London may be cancelled or delayed due to animals on the railway line, says National Rail.

The disruption is expected to last until around 10am.

“Train services need to run at a reduced speed through this area,” said National Rail.

“London Waterloo to Weybridge services will be diverted between Barnes Bridge and Hounslow calling additionally at Richmond and Twickenham.”

A track circuit failure is disrupting trains which travel between London Blackfriars and London St Pancras International.

National Rail says trains may be delayed by up to 20 minutes. The disruption is due to last until 1pm.

Heathrow Airport passengers caught in hour-long traffic queue fear missing flights

Frantic Heathrow passengers say they expect to miss their flights, after being caught up a four-mile queue of traffic tailing back on the M25 near the airport following a multi-vehicle crash.

One user on X, formerly Twitter, wrote at 11.25am: “We are a part of the long M25 standstill entering Heathrow for my parents’ flight LHR-SFO at 1:05pm. It’s not looking likely that traffic will move any time soon.”

Another passenger named Kim Le Geyt wrote how she feared missing her 12.50pm flight from Heathrow to New York. She later said traffic was moving, and that she hoped to arrive just in time for BA’s check-in deadline, which is an hour before departure.

Traffic on M25 now backing up for more than five miles

There is congestion to the M3 at J12, and diverting from J13 via the Crooked Billet and Stanwell Moor Road.
